This is an important notice to users of the ArcGIS Online lessons I have developed. The Gallery of Maps in ArcGIS Online were moved to an option under Story Maps. ESRI staff made the change so they could present maps with associated lessons. This is a valuable new resource that teachers could use. Unfortunately, my ArcGIS Online lessons are out of date. I am in the process of updating my lessons so they link to the Gallery of maps under My Stories. I can not give an exact date when the new lessons will be finished. I will post the updates as soon as I finish them.
GIS4schools.org website provides Minnesota educators with resouces and GIS lessons that they can use in their classrooms. The lessons are grouped into two catagories. First, Firewise lessons help students learn about the risk of wildfires and how as students they can assist their community become Firewise. Second, ArcGIS Online lessons show how GIS is used by Emergency Managers and fire departments to fight wildfires. All lessons are easy to teach.
GIS 4 Schools is negotiating a contract extension with MN DNR to continue providing technical assistance to teachers interested in conducting a Firewise in the Classroom project. Teachers are encouraged to contact Ken Pekarek about a Firewise project.
To see examples of the Firewise curriculum click on Firewise Lessons. Teachers interested in using ArcGIS Online, check out the ArcGIS Online lessons listed below.
